The Dharmachakra with pair of Deer is one of the most recognizable symbols in Buddhism. It can be seen in monasteries all around the world. It’s meaning comes from an ancient story in Buddhism:
The centerpiece in this depiction was offered in the form of a thousand-spoked wheel to Śākyamuni Buddha by Brahma when asked him to teach the sacred dharma. At that moment, from the forest came a pair of male and female deer, also known as the krishnasara (Tib. kri sha na sa ra) antelope of compassion. With unblinking gaze, they looked at the wheel with joy and delight.
In Lhasa, Tibet, one of the holiest buddhist cities in the world lies the Jahkong Temple. When you walk towards this temple, not only will you notice the smell of incense permeate your nostrils, but you will also see the Dharmachakra with a pair of deer similar to that pictured on our incense holder.
Our incense holder gives homage to buddhist heritage. You can use it with many kinds of incense.
